Overheating and Shutting Down – Heat is the enemy of electrical components. If a cooling fan stops working, or too much dust gets trapped inside the ventilation system, the processor will run at a higher temperature. When a temperature threshold has been reached, the processor will shut down immediately to prevent heat damage. Laptop Centre recommends a delicate but thorough cleaning to remedy this situation.
This process includes;
Running a temperature test to record the actual CPU temperature to confirm this is the problem. Once this is confirmed we then remove the entire cooling system assembly and perform a thorough cleaning of all components. Examining and testing the fan to ensure it is properly functional. If the fan is good, we start the reassembly. If we determine it is not functioning properly, we replace it. We then apply thermal past to the contact point between the CPU, GPU and heatsink. We then reassemble the laptop and run another temperature test to see the effectiveness of the job and to record the current operating temperature. Final step in this process is to update the bios (if available) to ensure the fan is being prompted to spin at the proper temperature.
